At ARBC, our mission is to mitigate flood damage, coordinate river management, promote responsible watershed management, and to conserve and restore the unique natural resources in the Amite River Basin watershed.
Using the best available science, ARBC is required to develop and implement a plan to manage and maintain all waterways in the District. This management plan is detailed in the District's Master Plan and Annual Plans. Both short-term and long-range management strategies are included, along with structural, nonstructural, and institutional components.
The District places a heavy focus on projects to reduce flood risk, along with strategies to maximize the use of innovative funding sources. In addition, the District participates in the Hazard Mitigation Plans of all seven Parishes in the District.
The District is also focused on the conservation and restoration of the watershed’s special, valuable, and unique natural resources
The Commission is dedicated to providing assistance to all political subdivisions in the District, coordinating with all state agencies regarding watershed management in the District, and providing public and agency outreach regarding the Commission's activities.
